FairTest is our "parent" organization and the only national organization devoted to resisting the tests. Californians for Justice, a statewide student organization, has been an ally of ours for years. Educator Roundtable was formed to resist NCLB. Susan Ohanian's very personal website is updated daily. James Crawford's Institute for Language and Education Policy, is an excellent resource for articles specifically about policy re English language learners, but also generally. Alfie Kohn is a prolific writer and powerful speaker on progressive education. The Florida resistance, under Gloria Pipkin. Mothers Against WASL [the Washinton State test] is the resistance movement in Washington. Parents United for Responsible Education is the resistance movement in Chicago. Rouge Forum is a radical group of educators, students, and parents seeking a democratic society. This is George Schmidt's Chicago paper, Substance's site. Please subscribe! Rethinking Schools is the other progressive publication, this one out of Milwaukee but covering national issues. Please subscribe to this, too. Time Out from Testing is New York's resistance movement. Just Schools is sponsored by the Institute for Democracy, Education, and Access (IDEA), Jeannie Oakes' organization at UCLA. Colorado is also organizing a state-wide opt-out. California Teachers Association (CTA) is the union most CA teachers belong to, and by far the most conservative site listed here. |
